When you’re looking for a new or different way to spend an evening, Arizona State University’s West Campus can often be a great place to look. This fall, in particular, is packed with exciting arts-related concerts, plays, and exhibits, so if you need a bit of culture in your week, ASU West can deliver.
With the theme of “experience the new,” ASU West shows its commitment to bringing arts and culture to the student body and local community. The Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance program within the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences is the driving force behind the influx of interesting arts events this fall, but the initiative is supported throughout the entire infrastructure of the University. Jeff Kennedy, the campus’s artistic director, told the Glendale Star that the diverse selection was chosen specifically to appeal to and engage not only the members of the ASU West community but also Glendale’s local residents.
First up this season, ASU West hosted composer and art theorist John Cage’s 100th birthday party on September 5. Performances and celebrations abounded, and the fall arts season had officially begun. Following that event, author Ishmael Beah made an appearance on September 18 and popular a cappella group Pentatonix, the winners of NBC’s third season of “The Sing-Off” wowed the crowds on September 21. However, if you weren’t able to catch any of these arts events, you certainly haven’t missed out on all that ASU West has to offer. The schedule picks up even further in October with the construction of a new mural courtesy of Calle 16 Mural Project on October 5 (music and dancing will also play a part in this fun event) and the play “Underneath the Lintel” visiting Second Stage West from October 18-21. “Call and Response: War and Peace” is a fantastic art exhibit that’s open at ArtSpace West until October 19. If you’re hoping for something even more interactive, next up on ArtSpace West’s docket is “nests,” a 3D installation that runs from October 23-November 9.
If your schedule is packed for a while, there’s even more to catch throughout the month of November. There’s truly something for everyone throughout the fall at ASU West. For culture and entertainment, it’s clear that ASU West has got you covered. For buying or selling in Glendale, or any Phoenix-area home, I am the one to call. I look forward to meeting you and getting to know your unique property needs!
