Civic workers and groups across the city are rallying to bring holiday cheer to those in need in the Glendale community. It’s a heartwarming example of citizen-to-citizen concern and support. The main objectives of the various charities are the stockpiling of food, supplies and toy donations. Police and fire in particular are running constant drives and while each is doing so in addition to their already busy and vital schedules, they are focused on a particular set of needs.
Glendale Fire sponsors drives for toys and clothing, maintaining a tradition of focusing on the younger members of the community. A spokesman for the Fire Department said, “The looks on the children’s faces are priceless...It seems that every single year, regardless of the economy, people are still willing to donate and help others.” Last year, they collected over $60,000 in toys and clothing for more than 500 families. Glendale Police manage a Shop With a Cop program that enables children a chance to travel to a Walmart for donated shopping privileges. Of course, the offshoot of Shop With a Cop is an opportunity for young citizens and their families to get to know their local peacekeepers and foster positive feelings for their jobs.
All in all, the charitable activity in Glendale raises significant support for those in need. And while there are year-long charity programs, the holidays are particularly taxing for so many, which is why the efforts of these civil services are so invaluable. We are so to have lucky these men and women serving our city in so many capacities and it is another testament to the generous spirit filling the people of Glendale, where they take the word ‘community’ very seriously. It’s another example of why Glendale is such an amazing place to live.
